Erewash Swim Academy
Swimming lessons start at 5 months old with the STARFISH Award Scheme and then guide you through the stages to advanced swimmer status.
Our swimming lessons work to the STA (Swimming Teachers' Association) pathway.
We have full range of exciting lessons for both adults and children.
|STARFISH 1 & 2
5 – 18 months
STARFISH 3 +

|Introducing babies into the water in an adult and child setting. Developing basic water confidence, basic swimming and safety skills together through fun, games and song.|
|STANLEY 1||Learners develop basic swimming strokes and water safety skills with parent in the water. Classes are fun and engaging, developing water confidence.|
|Learners develop basic swimming strokes and water safety skills without parent in the water. Classes are fun and engaging, developing water confidence.|
|OCTOPUS||Essential movement and swimming skills are developed alongside water safety. Working towards the removal of aids and swimming 5m.|
|GOLDFISH 1||All strokes are developed further including breathing techniques. Other aquatic strokes are introduced. Working towards 10m.|
|GOLDFISH 2 & 3||All strokes are developed further including breathing techniques. Other aquatic strokes are introduced. Working towards 15m.|
|ANGELFISH||Working towards 25m, refining stroke technique and skills such as sculling and entries into the water are performed.|
|SHARK||Developing finer stroke technique alongside personal survival and water safety skills. Working towards 50m and 100m.
Introducing basic rescue skills to create a full competent swimmer.
|ADVANCED SWIMMER||Comprising of three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold. Working through this series, learners further refine their stroke technique and rescue skills.|
|Work through lifesaving skills and practices. Using swimming, reaching and throwing rescues.|
Adult lessons are aimed at all ages and abilities.
From the very nervous non-swimmer to those wishing to improve their strokes - we have a lesson for you. Lessons are at your own pace, in a friendly atmosphere, with experienced teachers.

One to One Lessons
One to one lessons are aimed at both adults and children and are useful to:
- help long term non-swimmers move on to the next stage
- give confidence and support to nervous swimmers,
- teach water safety skills to swimmers unable to work in mainstream lesson
- improve stroke technique for advanced swimmers
- for adults who may never have learned to swim
How to enrol
Complete our Learn to Swim Application Form [1.35 MB] and return to West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton or Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston.
What does it cost?
You can pay as a one off payment or monthly by direct debit.
Junior tuition group: £4.50 per lesson with a leisure card, £5.10 without or £2.70 with a concessionary leisure card.
Adult tuition group: £4.90 per lesson with a leisure card, £5.50 without or £2.95.
