Homeowners who rent out properties are being invited by Erewash council to an invaluable local conference where they can get free advice from experts.

Crucial guidance will also be available to letting agents and others involved in the private rented sector as the authority hosts the two-hour event in Derby from 6pm on Wednesday 9 October.

It is being held with the backing of the region’s largest landlords association East Midlands Property Owners. The non-profit organisation – known as EMPO – was founded in 1942.
There is no charge for attending – and the Landlords Conference will include tea, coffee and biscuits.

Erewash’s Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing Cllr Josy Hare will be acting as host at the Derby Conference Centre in London Road. Participants are welcome to join in online via Microsoft Teams to learn about issues ranging from new legislation and incentive schemes to tackling damp and mould. Cllr Hare said:

“We are only too aware that major issues for landlords are rent arrears and giving notice to tenants – and these too will be covered.

“Erewash is proud to support a scheme called CB4YS – Call Before You Serve. It is an invaluable resource aimed at helping landlords and preventing homelessness. Details are on the Erewash Borough Council website.”

CB4YS is run by DASH Services, which is also backing the conference.

A spokesman for EMPO said: “We are dedicated to helping landlords navigate the complexities of property management and legal compliance, ensuring they can maintain high standards in the private rented sector.

“By advocating for landlords’ interests and offering essential support, EMPO strives to create a thriving environment where landlords are well-equipped to manage their properties effectively and responsibly.”
