We are committed to making our facilities and services as easily accessible as possible. Guide dogs can be accommodated in most areas, and if you have any comments or suggestions about how we can improve access to our leisure centres please contact us, we'll try our best to make life easier for you. 

 

Access Guide to West Park Leisure Centre for people with disabilities

WPLC Car parkParking

West Park Leisure Centre has 13 designated parking bays for people with disabilities.

The route to the leisure centre is on one level and accessible by wheelchair.

The nearest bus stops are on Wilsthorpe Road and Derby Road.

There is level access to the leisure centre.

The main doors in and out of the building are automatic.

There are visual emergency alarms throughout the building.

 

 

WPLC receptionReception Area

There is a lift to the first floor just behind the reception desk to the left..

The Reception has a low level desk. There is a wheelchair and pushchair park.

There is a hearing induction loop. We can provide leaflets in large print and other languages on request.  There is tactile signage throughout the centre.

The doors to the corridors, main hall, gym, family changing area and poolside are all assisted.

 

WPLC toilet in receptionToilets

There are adapted toilets on the ground floor in reception just to the left of the reception desk.  There are also adapted toilets in the poolside changing rooms.

The toilets are unisex and a key is not required.

The toilet in reception has a baby changing unit, basin, handrails, hand dryer, sanitary disposal and emergency alarm.

The large swimming pool changing room has a designated changing area with an adapted toilet, mirror, basin, handrails, hand dryer and sanitary disposal unit.

There is a flip down, baby changing unit.

There is an emergency alarm.

The adapted shower has handrails and a flip down seat.

There is a shower proof trolley bed.

There is an Arjo maxi sling hoist.

 

WPLC pool hoistSwimming Pools

There is an adapted shower with flip down seat located from the main pool area as you exit towards the main changing areas.

There is a moveable hoist which allows easy access to the main pool.
Our staff are trained to use the equipment and will be happy to help you - just ask.

There are also adapted steps into the main pool and there are two shallow steps into the teaching pool with handrails. All the pools have tiles with contrasting edges.

 

Access Guide to Rutland Sports Park for people with disabilities

Rutland Sports Park has designated parking bays for people with disabilities. There are six in the main car park, three directly outside the main door of the pavilion, three outside the tennis centre and three at the golf pavilion.

The route to the sports centre pavilion is on one level.

The nearest bus stops are on Ilkeston Market Place and on Oakwell Drive.  For information on local buses and the most up to date timetables, please have a look at the Trent Barton website.

There are adapted toilets on the ground floor in reception, on the first floor gym area, in the tennis centre and in the golf clubhouse.

The toilets are unisex.  A Radar key is required.

The golf clubhouse is situated at the end of West End Drive and has three parking spaces for people with disabilities, level, assisted access to the building and adapted toilets which require a Radar key.

It also has a designated mini bus parking space.

The route to the leisure centre is on one level and accessible by wheelchair.

There is an adapted shower with flip down seat located from the main pool area, immediately on your right as you access the changing area.
The moveable hoist allows easy access to both the main pool and the teaching pool.  Our staff are trained to use the equipment and will be happy to help you - just ask.
There are also steps into both the main pool and teaching pool with handrails.
There are ladder type steps into the main pool too.
All the pools have tiles with contrasting edges.

VPLC interactive semsory systemThe interactive, multi-sensory system

The first of its kind in this area. The sensory system in the teaching pool provides extra enjoyment and positive therapy for children with disabilities.

As the children enjoy the warm water, the system will enable them to listen to therapeutic music and watch attention-grabbing moving colours and shapes around the room.  

The £35,000 system was funded through Derbyshire County Council’s Aiming High programme for projects which support children with disabilities.
