Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires us to produce a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The purpose of the SHLAA is to help us check whether there is enough deliverable land available within the Borough which could potentially contribute towards meeting future housing needs.
The SHLAA does not decide where housing should be located or decide what specific housing sites should be allocated. It will identify sites which have the potential to be developed for housing, because they are considered to be suitable and available for development, and this is considered to be achievable. The fact that a site has been mentioned in the SHLAA does not mean that it will be allocated in the Local Plan or that it will be granted planning permission. Every application for residential development will be judged on its own planning merits.

5 Year Land Supply
The Borough Council is required in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) to demonstrate a potential supply of specific deliverable sites, sufficient enough to provide five years' worth of housing against its objectively assessed needs and an appropriate buffer. This is known as the 'five year land supply'.
The Borough Council has produced a document (link below) which demonstrates the extent to which commitments and future development sites identified in the Council's Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) contribute to a rolling five year supply of deliverable land for housing in Erewash.
After thorough local assessment work, the Council can indeed demonstrate that it has a 5 year land supply of housing land. Further details can be found in the document below:
