Statement of Community Involvement

Community involvement is playing an ever-increasingly important role in encouraging local residents as well as stakeholders in the planning system to become involved in the production of planning documents in Erewash.

The planning system requires a range of documents (including the Statement of Community Involvement) to ensure engagement with local communities is placed at the heart of planning.

The Statement of Community Involvement sets out our approach to involving the local community in the preparation, alteration and review of all planning policy documents and planning applications that relate Erewash.

The SCI shows who, when and how local communities can become involved in what we are doing and what measures have been taken to ensure that interested individuals and groups are informed about the progression of various planning documents as well as having the chance to comment on their content. We have to accord with the provisions as set out in the adopted SCI document when preparing LDF documents and also when processing/determining planning applications.

The Erewash Statement of Community Involvement was originally adopted by us formally on the 30 March 2007 but it has recently been updated in Autumn 2012. We will continue to monitor the effectiveness of its content in line with ever-evolving consultation and engagement techniques in planning. This is to ensure that the methods and techniques of consultation remain ‘fit for purpose’ for the individuals/groups and forums.
