Our Accounts

We own several social media accounts that we use to communicate with residents. Each of these accounts shares Council news, events, competitions, job vacancies, and details of swimming and fitness activities.

Communications Strategy

In a rapidly evolving connected world it is important that the council adopts a ‘people first’ approach to communications and to better understand our communities, helping to improve and shape service delivery.

Our aim is to facilitate communications that take place at a person’s convenience and enables ease of access to council information and services.

Responding to Tweets, Facebook Posts and Messages

Our social media accounts are monitored during weekdays, 9am-5pm. If you contact us out of these hours, your message will be dealt with the following working day.

For out of office emergencies, please call 01629 533078.

We aim to respond to every comment that we receive, but during busy times this is not always possible. However, we do read every comment and forward them to the relevant service area.

 

Moderation

Please be polite when conversing over social media. If you would not say something to one of our team in person, it is not appropriate to be posted on social media. Any posts that fit into the following categories will be deleted:

  • Anything that is abusive, threatening, unlawful, racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise offensive to the council, its staff or its constituents

  • Bullying or harassment

  • Posts containing swearing

  • Content for which you don’t own the copyright

  • Political comments

  • Advertising your own products, services or events

  • Spamming

  • Impersonating another person.

We will report any posts that break the rules of the relevant social media site.

 

Advertising

We use the council’s Facebook and Twitter pages to promote events that we run and co-run with our partnership communities. We ask that you do not use our Facebook and Twitter to promote your own events and services.

Spamming

Spamming is when the same or similar posts are repeatedly posted. Anything that we deem as spam will be deleted from the page, and repeat offenders will be blocked from visiting our page.

 

Sharing and Retweeting

We will share and retweet posts that we feel are interesting or helpful to people in Erewash. If we do not share or retweet a particular post, please do not take this personally—sharing and retweeting can often be seen as an endorsement, and we must remain impartial.

 

Pre-Election Period

In the six week period leading up to an election (such as a local, general, European election or similar), all councils have to be careful not to do or say anything that could be seen in any way to support a political party or candidate.

We will continue to publish important service announcements using social media during the pre-election period but may have to remove responses from any of our social media pages if they are overtly party political.
