In accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, every council in England and Wales must undertake and complete a review of all of the polling districts and polling places in its area within a 16 month period commencing from 1 October 2013 to 31 January 2015.
In reviewing its polling districts and polling places, the council will ensure that:
- electors have reasonable, practicable facilities for voting in the circumstances; and
- as far as is reasonable and practicable, that polling places are accessible to all electors, and when designating a polling place, have regard to the accessibility needs of all people.
Unsure of what certain words mean?
Ward - a specific area of a borough, defined for electoral, administrative and representational purposes.
Polling district - the geographical area created by sub - dividing a constituency / ward.
Polling place - a designated area, usually within a polling district, in which polling stations are located.
