Erewash Cost of Living Locality Funding - Small Grant Winter 2022-2023

Derbyshire County Council Public Health have made available locality funding for Erewash groups and organisations to support the continuity and additional provision of services in the voluntary and community sector during winter 2022-2023. The small grant fund will be managed and administered by Erewash Voluntary Action on behalf of the Erewash Health and Wellbeing Partnership.

The aim of the cost-of-living small grant is to support the Erewash community and voluntary sector to respond effectively and fund increased operational and running costs to manage demand and additional needs for support.  The grant will aim to support warm spaces for existing and new members of groups.

There are two specific aims that the small grant will consider funding:

  • Extending an existing activity that provides a warm space
  • New additional activities that provide a warm space

Applications can be made from any of the following:

  • Constituted community groups and organisations
  • Registered charities
  • Not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises
  • CIO’s

Applications can be made for up to £500 and the fund will close when all the grant money has been allocated.

Covid 19 Community Fund - Derbyshire County Council

Derbyshire County Council's Public Health team recognise that a number of community and voluntary sector organisations would benefit from additional resources to continue to support those most affected by the pandemic.

The COVID-19 Community Fund aims to support voluntary and community sector organisations by providing much needed funding. This allows them to continue to play a key role in the local response to COVID-19 and to improve the health and wellbeing of Derbyshire residents.

Formally constituted and non-constituted organisations can both apply for funding.

Foundation Derbyshire

Established in 1996, Foundation Derbyshire (the new operating name for Derbyshire Community Foundation) now manages endowment funds of over £6 million and has made over £13 million of grants across Derbyshire.

The average grant is around £1,000 and usually covers a 12 month period. Programmes may cover equipment (capital) and general running costs such as rent and transport (revenue), but applicants are advised to seek confirmation from Foundation Derbyshire.

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) Grants

Grants are available to voluntary and community groups, clubs, local charities and not for profit organisations. Individuals and businesses are not eligible to apply for this scheme.

The grant funding allocation for 2022 and 2023 will total £1.5 million. DCC will be looking to grant fund projects or activities which meet the following 5 priorities and support residents and communities to:

  • feel safe and included in their local community
  • promote positive behaviours for young people and residents
  • be green and sustainable
  • increase civic participation and deliver community identified priorities
  • be physically active and make positive lifestyle choices

Grants will be available for 4 scaled categories of awards as follows:

  • small grants up to £1,000
  • medium grants between £1,001 to £20,000
  • large grants between £20,001 to £50,000
  • exceptional grants above £50,000

Small grants are an open application process with no deadlines so you can apply at any time. All the other grant categories will be subject to application rounds.

The next deadline for medium grants is 31 January 2023. Following this the next deadline for both medium, large and exceptional grants is 30 April 2023.

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) Members Community Grants

The DCC members' Community Leadership Scheme allocates all 64 county councillors an annual fund of £3,860 which can be used to support projects in their Division.

Organisations seeking support under the scheme should contact their local county councillor explaining the nature of the project, the amount sought, what other funding may be available, and how it will benefit the community.

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner - Anti-Social Behaviour Prevention Grant

Derbyshire  Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has launched an Antisocial Behaviour Prevention Grant scheme to invest in proven initiatives that stop problems happening now and in the long-term. The PCC wants to empower voluntary and community organisations to take a stand against nuisance behaviour and support the partnership work already underway to make streets safer.

Through the Antisocial Behaviour Prevention Grant scheme, the PCC will invest £100k into projects that take positive action against antisocial behaviour. These could include sports and creative arts diversionary programmes, radio/film-making activities, drop-ins for young people, community clean-ups, intergenerational schemes, mentoring projects, education initiatives and parental support programmes.

Grants of up to £5k will be allocated to successful applicants who can show evidence of how they will make a difference to Derby and Derbyshire’s communities.

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Community Investment Fund

This fund is administered by Foundation Derbyshire and has four main themes. Applicants must ensure their application fits at least one of the following themes:

  • Activities that help to reduce anti-social behaviour and other causes of crime within your community;
  • Activities that support vulnerable young people who are either at risk of committing crime or becoming the victims of crime;
  • Projects that promote personal and/or community safety;
  • Projects that help to improve your local community either through an activity that bring everybody in the community together or through improving the community physically (renovating a building or creating a new community space).

Type of Project costs funded:

Capital (any items of equipment) although it is unlikely to fund substantial building works;

Revenue (any non-equipment costs) including ongoing running costs for a project or group;

One off events and one-off projects;

The Fund will not consider contributing to projects costs exceeding £5,000 and the maximum grant is currently £1,000.

Closing Dates

There are no fixed closing dates, the panel only meets twice a year. Examples of grants that could be made:

£250 towards the cost of security shutters for a community village hall;

£200 for flyers, publicising a holiday activity club for children and young people;

£150 towards annual room hire charges for a young people’s music club;

£225 for publicity and insurance for a community festival;

Severn Trent Community Fund - Applications Invited 

Severn Trent has made available a Community Fund of  £10 million which it will use to award grants to charities and community groups over the next 5 years (2020-25). 

Organisations, charities and communities across our borough are encouraged to apply for funding for their projects. Applications are welcomed all-year round and capital and revenue projects will be considered providing applications show how projects will be sustained beyond the investment.

Big Kirk Hallam Community Chest

Big Kirk Hallam is a £1m 10 year resident led programme to make Kirk Hallam an even better place to live. The Community Chest is a small pot of money from which local groups can apply for a grant of up to £1000.

Aims:

The aims of the Community Chest are to:

  • Help make Kirk Hallam and even better place

  • Support residents take action on the 4 key areas of Big Kirk Hallam plan priorities

  • Help individuals and entrepreneurs achieve their dreams (Star People)

Timescale

The Community Chest is open three times every year for the duration of the following months:

  • February;

  • June;

  • October.

Heritage Lottery Fund

Erewash Borough Council has been very successful in securing funding for a number of fantastic projects over the last few years. The HLF Development Team are proactively targeting areas that have received fewer HLF grants  and that for the period of their current strategic plan that includes Erewash. They are actively encouraging the identification of new projects that might fit their aims and objectives and have a number of grants available starting from £3,000: 

  • HLF can approve smaller grants of up to £100,000 under their Your Heritage and Young Roots schemes;

  • Grants between £100,000 and £2 million are awarded by the Committee for the East Midlands;

  • Requests for grants above £2m are awarded by the main board of HLF Trustees who take the recommendations of the Committee for the East Midlands into account.

Projects that can be funded are wide and varied, for example:

  • Helping to protect an amazing range of species across the East Midlands including seals, dragonflies, otters, great crested newts and ospreys;

  • Funding community and voluntary groups to encourage more people to share local heritage stories;

  • Saving objects in museums;

  • Protecting and conserving local heritage sites;

  • Restoring parks etc.

ASDA Foundation - Funding Opportunities

The ASDA Foundation is a charitable corporate Foundation making independent grants throughout the UK. Its aim is to ‘transform, communities’ improving lives for people and communities in the UK both now and in the future. ASDA Foundation seeks to fund charitable projects and activities that have the ideas and ability to achieve change for the better. For example:

  • Significant Community Projects – funding cannot be used for salaries but can be used for equipment, help with a community building, minibus etc. No upper limit to the funding.

  • Local Impact Grant – every year each store is allocated £5000 to support voluntary groups. £2000 for sports groups, £1000 for fun days, £1000 for older people’s activities e.g. lunch clubs and £1000 for Christmas meals for people who are isolated/older people.

  • Green Token Giving – 3 voluntary groups are funded every 3 months. 1st prize is £500, 2nd prize is £200 and 3rd prize is £200. The next period is Jan-Mar 2018.

  • Community rooms are available for groups to access – check with your local store.

  • Stands in the stores – voluntary organisations can apply to have a stand, raffle, tombola in stores to help with their fundraising and raising awareness, check with your local store.

Tesco

Tesco Community Grants support thousands of local community projects and good causes across the UK. The scheme is open to registered charities and not-for-profit organisations, so if you are an eligible organisation then apply for a grant now. Tesco customers or colleagues can nominate a cause that they would like to see supported, Tesco will contact eligible organisations to encourage them to apply. Customers are given a blue token in Tesco stores at the checkout and are encouraged to vote for their favourite local charity or project to receive a grant by putting the blue token in the Tesco Community Grants box.

Examples of eligible applications with a focus on supporting children and families could be;

  • a local school needing food for a children’s breakfast club, 
  • a voluntary organisation working with families to run holiday clubs,
  • a charity supporting  young people with specialist advice to manage mental health,
  • a brownie or scout group needing new tents,
  • or a youth sports club needing new equipment,
  • a family advice centre wanting to recruit more volunteers,
  • or a local friends of a park group wanting to develop a new toddler area.
