Erewash residents are being asked for their views on polling stations in the borough to ensure that the voting arrangements are as convenient as possible for all electors.
Erewash Borough Council launched its review on 1 October and the Returning Officer has now published his proposals. Further responses are now invited on these proposals. The final date for any comments is Monday 19 November 2018.
The council is particularly keen to receive comments on the following key points:
• Location – is your polling station conveniently located, whether you walk, travel by car or use public transport?
• Accessibility – are the entrances to your polling station adequately accessible for all members of the community, including those with disabilities?
Councillor Gerri Hickton, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Community Engagement, says:
“This is an important review to ensure we have the polling stations in place that are right for the local community so I would urge residents to take an interest and share their views with us.”
Residents can share their views by email to email@example.com or by writing to Electoral Services Manager, Erewash Borough Council, Town Hall, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 5RP.
In accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, every council in England and Wales must undertake and complete a review of all of the polling districts and polling places in its area within a 16 month period.
In reviewing its polling districts and polling places, the council will ensure that:
• Electors have reasonable, practicable facilities for voting in the circumstances; and
• As far as is reasonable and practicable, that polling places are accessible to all electors, and when designating a polling place, have regard to the accessibility needs of all people.
