What do I need to do to become a trader?

To stand on either Ilkeston or Long Eaton markets, you will need to seek the permission of the Erewash Markets Officer, who will assess your suitability to trade based upon several factors, such as whether or not you wish to sell a desired line. We are always wary of the fact that too many traders selling the same product can have a detrimental effect on the market as a whole, and wish to avoid such situations. Also, all traders are required to have £5million public liability insurance.

Traders who wish to sell food or drink items should email Erewash Borough Council's Environmental Health Officers.

The address of the Erewash Markets Officer is:
Erewash Borough Council, Merlin House, Merlin Way. Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 4RA.
Telephone 07702 821938/0115 9072244
Email markets@erewash.gov.uk

Once you have received permission from the Markets Officer and provided a copy of your public liability insurance, you can attend the market as a casual trader.

You will need to arrive between 8:00am and 9:00am on the morning you wish to trade, and see the Markets Officer. If there is a pitch available, one will be allocated to you on a casual basis for the day. As both markets are now self-erect, you may be able to erect your own stall/gazebo. There are some fixed stalls available at Long Eaton.

For a full summary of the legislation applicable to trading on our markets, please email our Markets Officer.
