Scheme now open!

For the 2019-20 financial year, each Erewash councillor has £500.00 to award to organisations within their ward. It is for each councillor to determine which project(s) or organisation(s) they wish to support. The scheme allows a wide degree of flexibility in the type of project a councillor may support and the amount (minimum £50) they wish to allocate, subject to approval.

What can be funded?

  • Activities that complement the council's draft core priorities:

    • A safe, clean and welcoming borough

    • Improved access to services

    • Delivering efficient and effective services that residents need

    • Creating opportunities for economic growth and prosperity

    • A well run and efficient council

  • Organisations (including registered charities, community and voluntary groups, Community Interest Companies, Social Enterprises) within the councillors own ward, or councillors may join together to support a project covering two (or more) wards.

  • Councillors can allocate the entire £500 to one organisation, but where multiple organisations are to be awarded funding, there is a minimum award of £50 per organisation.

  • Capital purchase items.

  • Match funding for a project. Funding will be agreed but not allocated until the applicant confirms that all match funding is in place.

What can't be funded?

  • Individuals cannot be funded, or projects where only one person will benefit.

  • Revenue items, for example on-going running costs such as salaries and rent.

  • Activities that should normally be funded by a statutory organisation.

  • Party political activities.

  • Retrospective funding (i.e. any expenditure made prior to the approval of the grant).

  • Double funding, where funding has been obtained from alternative sources for the same thing.

How the scheme operates

The scheme is administered by the council's Community Engagement Officer, colin.handley@erewash.gov.uk. However, organisations are advised that EBC Councillors are responsible for fully completing and signing grant application forms before they are submitted to the Community Engagement Officer.

  • All funding awards must be spent within the current financial year or within 6 months of the notification date of the award. Any unspent funds remaining after this time must be returned to the council.
