The announcement of the snap General Election on Thursday 12 December means time is ticking for anyone who is not on the electoral register – which you must be on to have a right to vote.
Residents are being reminded that they must be registered by Tuesday 26 November to be able to vote in the election, the first December Parliamentary Election in nearly a century.
Erewash Borough Council has just completed its annual canvass to ensure the register is up-to-date, so residents who have responded to that will receive their poll card. However, anyone who failed to respond, has moved house or moved into the borough must take action before the deadline.
It is quick and easy to register online.
Voters who will be away on election day can request postal or proxy votes before the following deadlines:
• 5pm, Tuesday 26 November - for new postal vote and postal proxy applications
• 5pm, Wednesday 4 December - new applications to vote by proxy (a named person to vote at the polling station on your behalf)
