Fibro Active Long Eaton is a newly formed support group for people with Fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and their carers. It is a positive and inclusive group that focuses on healthy lifestyle, light exercise, support and sharing information as well as educating members about their condition and help them move forward with their acceptance and management of the illness.
A typical session
Most sessions start with ‘offloading’ any issues the members may have. This allows us to keep the meetings positive for the rest of the sessions.
Sessions include nutrition advice, smoothie bike, boccia, chair based exercise, gentle walks, circuit training, talks on symptoms, guest speakers and refreshments.
All members are encouraged to input into the programme with ideas such as crafts and cooking.
Fibro Active works in partnership with Erewash Borough Council, Public Health and Erewash CVS. The health and sport team at Erewash Borough Council are the third party for GP referral and help deliver the health and active part of the programme allowing access to wellbeing classes and qualified instructors and on some occasions outside organisations such as Age UK and VillageGames.
Erewash CVS provide room hire and provide expert knowledge in guiding us through formalising the group and other processes.
