Housing Benefit Payments

How your Housing Benefit is paid.

Housing Benefit can help you pay your rent if you're unemployed, on a low income, or claiming benefits. Here's how it's typically paid:

  • East Midlands Homes (EMH)Tenants: If you rent from the EMH Housing Benefit can be paid directly into your rent account.
  • Other Tenants: If you rent privately or from a housing association, Housing Benefit can be paid either to you or directly to your landlord
  • Universal Credit: Housing Benefit is being replaced by Universal Credit for most new claimants. If you're eligible for Universal Credit, your housing costs will be included in your monthly payment

You can choose your preferred payment method when you apply.
