Assisted Collections

If you have difficulty putting your bin or recycling bags out for collection or bringing them back, you may be eligible for an assisted collection.

This service is for residents who are unable to put out or return their bin and have no-one living with them who can do this.

A temporary service can be provided for residents who need assistance for a short time due to an accident, illness or pregnancy where there is no one living at the property who can help.

How to apply

Request an assisted bin collection through your account:

Eligibility

Information may be requested to support your application such as confirmation from a recognised organisation or a medical note.

If a young person of 16 years or older lives permanently at the address assisted collection may not be granted. Each case will be assessed individually.

If you are eligible and have recycling bags you will be offered a free 140 blue bin for your recycling (excluding the temporary service).

Please note the free blue bin is only available to residents on the assisted collection scheme and the bin remains the property of the council. If the bin is no longer needed for any reason the bin should be returned to the council.

What to do next

Once we have confirmed your assisted service, we ask you to:

  • Tell us where you keep your bins
  • Do not put your bin out yourself the crew will know to collect and return your bin.
  • Make sure the crew can get to your bins and there are no obstructions
  • Notify us straight away if you change where you keep your bins or if you are moving house
  • If your bin is kept behind a locked gate, ensure the gate is unlocked on collection day. We will not return until your next scheduled collection if we cannot gain access
  • No dogs or other pets are to be loose whilst we are collecting and returning your bin, apart from assistance dogs. Please make sure the area is clear from animal fouling
  • We will occasionally check with residents that the service is still required - please ensure you return any forms so you can continue to receive help (if still needed)
  • If you are receiving the temporary service, you will be notified through your ‘My Erewash’ account (if you have one) when the service will end. If you require an extension, you must let us know before the service expires.
