Engaging with Businesses and Communities

What we are doing to engage with businesses and the community on climate change.

Climate Change affects everyone and everything. As such we cannot work alone.

  • We will be open and transparent about our aims and progress on climate change
  • We will provide information and guidance on how you can help
  • Please use our new customer engagement platform. Head to Let's Talk Erewash for active consultations & engagement. If you are a community group, please reach out for a chat to see if we can help each other out.

We are keen to work with local organisations and community groups to facilitate:

  • Community energy projects
  • Home retrofit
  • Allotment and FoodShare options
  • Zero waste projects
  • Climate change, biodiversity and rewilding education
  • Sustainable & active travel schemes

What Can I Do!?

It is very easy to be overwhelmed by Climate Change risks, what to do and not do.

It can seem pointless to do anything. However, everything helps drive change and inspire others. Together we can create a positive resilient future.

Here are a few ideas:

  1. Calculate your carbon footprint and work to reduce it with the WWF Footprint Calculator
  2. Review your buying habits by asking: Do I need it? Can I use less? Can I reuse it? Can it be recycled? Can I compost it?
  3. Look for trusted eco labelling such as B-Corp, Carbon Trust, and Sustainable Forestry Standards.
  4. Check where your product is made, grown, and transported from, in store and online. Apply this scoring system (the lower the better): 0 = Home grown/ made, 1 = your village or town/ your county, 2 = British or UK, 3 = Europe, 4 = Long Haul Imports – How does your shop add up?
  • Take your own bag – ideally fabric
  • Buy loose – fruit & veg, tea, pasta – anything you can
  • Share leftovers – with your neighbours, community food banks or fridges
  • Swap clothes – neighbours, family and friends
  • Repair where possible – repair cafes
  • Buy second hand – charity shops, second-hand websites & apps
  • Make your own – learn new skills, work with local artists and artisans
  • Donate unwanted items – so many charities
  • Buy efficient appliances – A+ rated
