a white knuckle fair rideThrill rides and stalls will be taking over streets in Erewash barely a month after Ilkeston’s 772nd charter fair – as November sees Long Eaton host its Chestnut Fair.

Although nowhere near as old as the borough’s more celebrated street fair, the three-day spectacle again promises to be just as much fun for all the family.

The Chestnut Fair runs from Thursday 21 November to Saturday 23 November – with road closures starting from Monday 18 November at 6pm and lasting until midnight the following Sunday.

Rides and stalls will stretch along the High Street through to the Market Place. The Beaconsfield car park will be closed to the public.

Organised by Mellors Group, it is one of the final big street fairs of the year – but not quite the last hurrah for travelling showmen in the borough.

Two more events will also feature fairground rides. These are the council’s ever-popular Christmas lights switch-ons – in Long Eaton on Thursday 28 November and in Ilkeston on Friday 29 November. Both take place between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

In yet more festive fun the Erewash Museum – which is near Ilkeston’s Market Place – is holding Saturday “Story with Santa” sessions on 7, 14 and 21 December. The price is £7 per child. Booking is required.

Locals can also join a museum workshop to make spectacular Christmas wreaths. The craft course on Saturday 7 December costs £45. To find out how to book visit the Erewash Museum Facebook page.

Erewash’s Deputy Leader Cllr Becca Everett, who is Lead Member for Community Engagement, said:

“The family-friendly Chestnut Fair in Long Eaton and our fun-filled Christmas lights switch-ons are a great opportunity to get in the festive mood. If you love white-knuckle rides, hook a duck and candy floss don’t miss out.”
