Changes to bin collection days over Christmas
Waste and recycling collections
There will be some changes to our refuse and recycling collection days during the Christmas 2024 period. The changes are:
Wednesday 25 December 2024 will be collected on Monday 23 December 2024.
Thursday 26 December 2024 will be collected on Monday 30 December 2024.
Wednesday 1 January 2025 will be collected on Thursday 2 January 2025.

Extra Black Bin waste
We do not accept extra waste at the side of the black bins.
Extra Recycling
If you have extra recycling this can be placed out for collection at the side of your blue bin in reusable green bags* or in clear/frosted plastic bags. The crew can then check the recycling, so household waste and recycling is not mixed. Please flatten large pieces of cardboard and stack behind the bin.
*Reusable green bags are available free of charge from the Town Hall receptions, Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Ilkeston and West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton.
If you regularly have extra recycling, an additional blue bin can be purchased.
Extra black bin waste and recycling can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Ilkeston provided by Derbyshire County Council.
Garden Waste Collections
Ilkeston and surrounding towns and villages.
Last collection will be the week starting 11 November 2024. Starting again the week of 17 February 2025.
Long Eaton and surrounding towns and villages.
Last collection will be the week of 18 November 2024. Starting again the week of 24 February 2025.
Clinical waste collections
Wednesday 25 December 2024 will be collected on Monday 23 December 2024.
Wednesday 1 January 2025 will be collected on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Bulky collections and white goods
Last collection: Wednesday 18 December 2024. Starts again: Wednesday 8 January 2025.
Last collection for items that contain foam, such as sofas, armchairs, footstools: Tuesday 17 December 2024. Start again: Tuesday 7 January 2025.
Christmas tree recycling
Real Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following recycling points from Friday 27 December 2024 until Sunday 12 January 2025.
- Ilkeston Rutland Recreation Ground – Next to the fire station
- West Park Long Eaton
Trade waste collections
Wednesday 25 December 2024 will be collected on Monday 23 December 2024.
Thursday 26 December 2024 will be collected on Monday 30 December 2024.
Wednesday 1 January 2025 will be collected on Thursday 2 January 2025.
